March Coronet Report
Posted on March 13, 2017 By Muin maqq Minain
This last month found Their Excellencies splitting their time at a number of exciting events.
Winter Nights and Bhakail Bardic Championship
Wow, what an event! We saw bards come from near and far to compete on the (imagined) oxhide, challenging one another throughout the day. Many challenges were issued and answered, and His Excellency was moved to tell the tale of Wing Bruce, otherwise known as Lord Breuse de Tarraunt. Mistress Judith Fitzhenry also told a story of Bruce Stone-pate…again, Lord Breuse. She did not know it was Bruce’s birthday, but it was fitting to have a couple of stories in his name for that day.
Of course, it was also a chance for us to solicit contenders to become our Bardic Champion! Perfect event for it, though things being what they were, and with as many contenders for the bigger Winter Nights event that we had, we limited the scope of the competition in order to get back to the main event. It was, as is often the case in Bhakail, a tough decision, but we were pleased to announce that milord David – known as Creepy Bard – performed well both in the Championship and Winter Nights overall. Hearing him compete throughout the day in at least four languages, and then to hear the intelligent and funny English verses to Bonum Vinum sealed the deal.
We were also honored to recognize Isabel de Kerbriant as a member of the Order of the Eft for all of her hard work done very cheerfully over the years. Vivat to Isabel, milord David and vivant to all who participated in Winter Nights!
Meanwhile…
Ysmay spent two days in AEthelmarc learning an amazing amount about fencing at AEdult Swim. Fencers from Bhakail and surrounding areas acted as hosts, support and retinue throughout the weekend, and both our Rapier Champion and Ladies Champion exhibited prowess and chivalry throughout the weekend. It was gratifying to see how many fencers were wearing Bhakail colors. We hope to distribute a few more in the coming months.
Estrella War
Mael Eoin spent the week at Estrella, which was amazing as always, and was able to present 5 yards of Atenveldt-themed trim made by milady Chana (Dayna, whose name is in progress). Everyone in camp was jealous and wants their own, it was so well done. It should be noted that it was Chana’s first card-weaving project and she has since gone on to present trim to His Highness after he fawned over it as she worked on it at a Regional fight practice (…which was her first card-weaving project that had the cards going in two directions…so a test project, but such a test project!).
Cook Thynge
Ysmay acted as class coordinator for Cook Thynge down in Caer Adamant this year. THL Muin, THL John Marshall, THL Martyn, Lady Robin and Lord Aiden all pitched in to teach classes, and a number of Bhakailis and friends of Bhakail helped with both set up and tear down of the event, including two college friends of Ysmay’s recruited just in time to help with kitchen prep and class room set up the day before the event.
…and more fencing!
The first weekend in March found Ysmay traveling to the Central region again with a cadre of Tadcasters for two days of fencing classes, practice, and melee tryouts. These practices seem to be a good luck charm as she was able to authorize in rigid parry there. The Tadcasters, including the Rapier Champion, served Her Excellency well, and a good time was had by all.
Winter Schola
Their Exellencies were able to spend a relaxing and enjoyable Saturday in Barren Sands attending their Winter Schola. Mael Eoin, Mistress Brunissende, Mistress Lissa and THL Martyn all taught classes, and everyone pitched in to help with the clean up. It is gratifying to see the increased activities in Barren Sands, and we hope to continue supporting them as their group continues to strengthen.
In addition to these events, Her Excellency has been working with Lady Eleanora and a number of other folks to complete new baronial favors to give out. We hope to have them in the next few weeks, so check in with us if you want one.
In Service,
Ysmay and Mael Eoin
Baroness and Baron of Bhakail
