September 2020 Business Meeting Minutes

Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain

Hello, The Barony!

We have finally moved past the trauma that has been a Year Without a Pennsic, and maybe we have gained a new perspective on Pennsic as SCAdians. We now have almost a year to prep ourselves for the next Pennsic. Projects we didn’t quite get finished for this year, we have a grace period allowing those same projects to get finished, and possibly to troubleshoot any snags encountered.

We have been given time to get it right.

And, some of you may have noticed I had said “Almost a year.”

We are now less that a year to the next Pennsic.

This awkward time has also allowed the Barony, and its friends and allies, to work on other projects that each open up new avenues for us to engage in this Society we love. We have had Bardics. We have continued with our weekly Socials, and our monthly Business Meetings. We have even had East Kingdom Courts, elevations, and A&S classes.

Thankfully, here in Bhakail, we were even able to hold another Behind the Ramparts event this last month. The conversation is good, and the chance to show off new cooking skills and achievements is always a welcome topic.

With this in mind, I am proposing that another Behind the Ramparts event be held in October, or early November. Possibly with a short Baronial Court held therein.

Your Baron,
  – Muin

Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar

Greetings,

The first Ethereal Coronation in the East has happened. It was very well done and if you were unable to see it live, you can still see it on Youtube.

Events are still canceled for the rest of the year, but that just gives us the opportunity to make new garb and look forward to next  year. As our beloved Baron pointed out, we have less than a year to prepare for Pennsic.

  – Alesia

Social Media Deputy – Master Rowen Cloteworthy

Hello, the Barony! –

Information continues to flow in, out, and around the Barony. Five folks have joined the FB group in the last month, including the Kingdom SM Officer. Alesia updated the announcement at the top of the FB group page with updated resource links and the contact info in the group description has been updated. Kingdom has  started a spreadsheet of SM contacts for local groups. I’ve updated our Seneschal contact on that list, as well as Livia’s contact as the Bailiwick Seneschal. Minutes for last month’s meeting were posted to the website. That’s everything for this  month.

In service to the Baron and Barony,

 – Rowen

Exchequer’s Report – Mistress Philadelphia Brown

Nothing new to report other than I am focusing on getting old, uncashed checks reissued and cashed so we can clear them off the Bhakail liability report. The old, uncashed checks are mostly $5.00 refunds for overpaying for events.

Thanks!

  – Philly

Minister of Arts & Sciences’ Report – Lady Maryna Borowska

Hello, the Barony –

As we pass the six-month mark of the pandemic affecting both daily and SCA life here in the East, I want to remind everyone to take care of and be kind to themselves. This is a prolonged period of stress that the human body and brain is simply not designed to handle easily. Many people have done great artistic things during this time, and of course the move to online classes and meetings has made many things accessible to those who might not be able to attend an in-person class. But it’s also important to remember that daily life takes a lot of energy right now – stress takes energy – and that it’s OK if you haven’t touched a needle or a brush or an instrument in months. The arts can be a wonderful source for self care, and an outlet for some of that stress, but they can also be a source of pressure.

Take time for yourself. Pick up a project that’s just for you, and not for largesse or commission or competition.

Breathe, and remember it won’t be like this forever, and it’s OK if  it’s still hard after all this time. This isn’t something we can or should get used to.

YIS,

  – Maryna

Chancellor Minor’s Report – Lady Honorable Lady Roseia Poseia

August 2020 Business Meeting Minutes

Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain

Greetings to the Barony, its Friends and Allies, and all!

We have just enjoyed our third Behind the Ramparts Ethereal Dinner event, and I wanted to start off with a brief thank you to all of you who joined us. It was a lovely and lighthearted affair. Just what We needed.

This last month there have been many options for online meetings, classes, and concerts, and I believe these are the things that are helping to make the lives of many SCAdians easier, or, at least to some extent, less stressful.

If any of you have ever had any thoughts about hosting a class, doing an instructional video, or hosting an Ethereal Event, now is the time to step up and make this dream a reality.

Take heart, you are not alone.

Wishing you all the best, and that you take care of yourselves;
  – Muin, Baron of Bhakail

Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar

From the Board of Directors During the BoD’s ad hoc meeting of July 28, 2020, it was decided to cancel all in-person events until January 31, 2021.

Yule 2020 Cancelled Due to the BoD’s decision, Bhakail Yule has been cancelled for 2020. I know this seems to be a heavy blow on top of so many other hits we have had recently, but if it keeps us safe and lessens the number of new cases of plague, it will be all worth it when we are finally able to gather with our friends and loved ones to resume the activities we love so much.

Financial Status of the SCA – Many of you have seen the BoD video or read the notice of the status of the SCA. There has been a significant decline in revenue as well as a decline in membership. This situation threatens the Society’s ability to return to the game we love and miss. The best way at this time to support the SCA is to re-up your membership if it has lapsed. The East Kingdom Seneschal is looking into ways to assist those who lack the resources to resume/continue their membership. Information will be shared with the Barony as it becomes available.

Officer Vacancies – At this time, two officer positions have expired and we need to fill the following positions – Minister of the Lists and Salamander Pursuivant (Herald). If you have any questions about the responsibilities of these positions, please contact the Seneschal. The Seneschal will be accepting Letters of Intent for both positions until the end of the next Barony Meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

Virtual Pennsic – The last month has brought more new changes to our Society. The very first virtual Pennsic took place. For those of us on Facebook we got to enjoy regular announcements (move your car to the parking lot!), weather reports and reminders of items lost and found. As someone who has been unable to attend Pennsic for the last couple of years and has had to live it vicariously through Facebook updates I found it to be comfortingly familiar.

Please stay safe.
  – THL Alesia de Maris, Seneschal of Bhakail

Social Media Deputy – Master Rowen Cloteworthy

Hello, the Barony!

New people continue to join the Barony’s FB group. We’ve had 6 new people in the last month.

I continue to try and make sure important notes from the Society get passed to email and FB, like the BoD’s recent announcement that funds to continue operating are falling very short.

Next, we’ll have to be a little tighter on distributing information about our virtual events. I missed that the event organizer for the latest Bhakail: Behind the Ramparts event only posted it to FB and not to email, so I didn’t get a copy of the announcement to the email list until the day before the event. That cuts non-FB people out of the information loop. I apologized to the email list for that oversight.

In service to Baron and Bhakail,
  – Rowen

Exchequer’s Report – Mistress Philadelphia Brown

2nd quarter exchequer report sent in.

The Champions Commons pavilion rental fee (less $6.50 service charge) was returned. (Thanks, Alesia!!)

The German Society has been informed that they can release our Yule Revel and Tavern dates. They were disappointed but understood. (These dates were pencilled in only. No contracts signed yet nor deposits paid so we are not out any money by cancelling.)

Thanks!

  • Proposal for a Regional Demo Team – Lady Yasamin al-Sardaniya attended the meeting to discuss putting together a Regional Demo Team. This is an idea they have been working on in Buckland Cross. Having a dedicated team would benefit everyone and allow us to pool our resources and staff to hold more demos. This will get the word out about us and our activities. Reactions were favorable and Lady Yasamin will contact us to discuss the proposal in more detail.

Old Business

  • Ramparts Event – The event this past Saturday went well but wasn’t as well attended as the two prior events. For future events we will try to do a better job of announcing the event on Facebook and the Baronial list. Also need to put the event on the East Kingdom calendar and make sure we don’t conflict with other events.

Meeting ended.

July 2020 Business Meeting Minutes

Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain

With the ridiculous nature of the mutated camel’s back that is the corona virus we need to all be both assiduous and fastidious in our conduct and hygiene, we ALSO need to be flexible in our expectations of events and activities. Be safe.

 – Muin, Baron of Bhakail

Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar

The state of PA is changing its recommendations daily. At this time, please do what you need to do to stay safe so we can all see each other when events start up again.

 – THL Alesia de Maris, Seneschal of Bhakail

Social Media Deputy – Master Rowen Cloteworthy

People have inquired about opening a Baronial Instagram page. Do we need or want that as a platform right now? There has also been talk of setting up a Discord server. There’s definitely two opinions about that. Some people feel they’re overwhelmed with social media and wouldn’t track Discord as an additional feed. However there are a number of people who’d like to see that set up because it’s a more primary social media source for them.

Did a number of updates to the Baronial website.

Business meeting minutes for Feb-June have been added.

On the Welcome page, it now references “pre-17th century world” instead of “pre-1600 Europe and the cultures that had contact with it”, to bring it into alignment with the SCA’s updated mission. Also some language changes and updated references to the Baron, rather than Baron and Baroness. Also, a link to the Announcements page has been put on the Welcome page.

The “About the Barony” page now has an image of the badge and descriptions of what the device and badge are. The Canton of Black Icorndall has been removed. Links to the Bhakail EK Wiki and the East Kingdom website were added. The outdated zip code list has been removed and replaced with a link to the EK zip code finder.

Some titles on the Officers page have been updated. A link was added for the Bailiwick and Social Media.

The Baronial Champions page has been updated, as has the Baronial Appointments page. All references to Baron and Baroness have been changed to Baronial Seat.

The Announcements page has been updated for the first time since 2015. :-O

The page for Bhakail Yule has been updated to reference Yule coming in 2020. Last pointed to 2018.

On the Resources page, the subscription link for the email list was updated. The subscription link for the Pennsic list was added. Several broken links were removed. Financial policies were moved from Resources to Law & Policy.

On the Newcomers page, links were updated for the email list and links added for Announcements and Calendar. Several pages on the EK site for newcomers were taken down, so our links were updated.

In service to Barony and Kingdom,
  – Rowen

Exchequer’s Report – Mistress Philadelphia Brown

Working on the 2nd quarter exchequer report, which is due at July month-end.

We haven’t paid the site rental deposits or signed the contracts for Yule 2020 or Tavern 2021 yet.

We haven’t yet paid out any advances for food/supplies for Commons, Yule, or Tavern.

Thanks!

New Business

  • August Business Meeting Normally we would not hold a Baronial Business Meeting in the month of August, because many of us would be at Pennsic. However, since our town run has been extended an extra 52 weeks this year due to the pandemic, there will be an online Business Meeting held on Tuesday, August 11, at 7 PM.

Old Business

  • Art Challenge Chana, A&S Champion Our Baron’s Art Challenge is still happening! His Excellency has set the challenge – “Pennsic isn’t. Bhakail is.” I hope to see some great art during Peace Week! Remember to send your entries to Baron Muin (baron@bhakail.eastkingdom.org); Lady Chana, A&S Champion (chatelaine@bhakail.eastkingdom.org); and Lady Maryna, Minister of Arts and Sciences (moas@bhakail.eastkingdom.org).
  • Pennsic Chana, Campmaster – As we all think about the Pennsic-prep we would be doing right now, I encourage you all to support those SCA artists you would normally have supported at Pennsic. Many have Etsy sites or their own websites, and a Facebook group called “SCA Merchant Relief” was formed several months ago to help SCAdians around the world who have lost substantial income due to our quarantines. Please consider purchasing something from these artists, we can keep each other afloat so we can see them at future events.
  • Commons – It was decided at the meeting that Commons will be canceled for this coming August. There are a number of restrictions with regards to the number of people and activities that could take place, as well as the concerns for the health of all of our members that factored into this decision. His Excellency will be contacting our current Champions for both armored combat and rapier, and ask if they wish to continue their service to our Barony or to step down. If they wish to step down, His Excellency will make arrangements for obtaining the regalia from the outgoing Champion. Depending on how things go, we may be looking to reschedule sometime next spring.
  • YuleMaryna, Event Steward – Yule is tentatively still on. We will have to make a decision next month whether or not the contract is signed with the German society. If a contract is signed, and the event cannot be held, there is a sum of money that will be lost. It is not an insignificant amount, so it will be discussed and voted on at the next meeting.
  • ArcheryMaryna – Archery guidelines have not yet been issued for re-opening practices.

Salamander Pursuivant’s Report, 2020-07

Anyone interested in producing scrolls for future Baronial Courts is welcome to contact me.

June 2020 Business Meeting Minutes

Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain

Hello, The Barony, Friends and Allies!

This last month We have had the double pleasure of seeing Friends and Colleagues be awarded by the Crown at the Ethereal Court, and another Ethereal Court is RIGHT around the corner. We are left wondering what wonders we will see!

There was also a second Bhakail: Behind the Ramparts Ethereal Event held, with many good gentles joining in.

We look forward to a possible third such event this next month.

While I won’t belabor the points concerning safety in this time of plague, I feel those more fully fall under the Auspices of our amazing Seneschal; I would, however, ask of all those hearing and reading these words going forward – Please be safe. Be reasonable. Be cautious. And continue to wash your hands.

With these words, On this 9th of June, in this, the Year of the Salacious Murder Hornets

 – Muin, Baron of Bhakail

I reached out for clarification and as of right now, only non-contact activities – i.e. thrown weaponry, archery, etc. – are allowed to resume. However, as our state begins to loosen quarantine restrictions I will be reaching out again to the gentleman we rent practice space from to make plans for our eventual return to weekly practice. Continue following the Philadelphia fight practice page for updates.

Minister of the Lists’ Report – Mistress Judith the Confused

Greetings Good Gentles,

As we move closer to overcoming this plague that has struck the land, let us hope that we are ready to do battle with our Friends and Enemies. Your MOLs are ready and able to stand by your side (okay sitting and six feet away). If you have need of any paperwork for reauthorizations or new authorizations, please feel free to contact us at 133292@members.sca.org. If you are interested in learning how to MOL, also reach out as well.
We hope to see you all again at Bhakail’s Champions and Commons at the end of August if the scourge has left the nearby countryside by that time. In the meantime, stay well, safe, and strong.

The Barony calls on you this Yule to produce medicines most delicious for the brewing competition. Mead, wine, or even beer that has medicinal properties. Judging to be on taste and having a medicinal ingredient. At bare minimum, entrants must include an ingredients list and a description of what benefit their “medicine” can provide. • Commons – At this time we are going forward with plans for Commons. Mael Eoin has volunteered to be the pot luck coordinator.
  • Shire Wars – Alesia has spoken with the autocrat, Lord Eleazar ha-Levi of the Shire of Blak Rose, and as of the end of April the event is still on. When she last spoke with Eleazar there were 4 other groups involved and that was the benchmark we were looking for. Bhakail has joined Blak Rose and is providing financial support.
  • Yule – Last month Maryna announced she was preparing a bid for Yule. The bid hasn’t been submitted yet.

April 2020 Business Meeting Minutes

Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain

Hello, and be well, People of Bhakail;

We are loving in an age of wonders. And while there are horrors that some days keep us all in check, know that the wondrous things we have populated our lives with are offering up new ways to love through, around, and even with those very same horrors.

Most of us, you Coronet included, don’t think of the SCA as a tech interface kind of experience, but as most will agree the SCAdian lifestyle is one of participation.

And these very same technologies that we may think of as being antithetical to this hobby will be a linchpin in holding it aloft for us until these dire times pass.
And we have many an option in these electronic halls from which to choose!
The East Kingdom MoAS Office had been working hard to ensure we have classes available on-line, as well as craft meet ups to not only teach us, and keep us all together, but to aid in defrauding the mental and emotional costs of living in quarantine.

The weekly Socials have been happening online. And this coming weekend, because many hands have made such light work, we will have the first ever, to my knowledge, Bhakail Ethereal Event: Bhakail: Behind the Ramparts!
This is all in aid of saying, to Bhakail, and to the Kingdom of the East, We are still here. We will continue to be here.

We are Bhakail.
Signed, this 14th of April, Your Baron of Bhakail;

– Muin

Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar

Welcome to Bhakail’s first online Barony meeting. The last four weeks have seen a lot of changes to the Known World. From the canceling of major events such as Mudthaw to the postponing of Coronation and Spring Crown Tourney, we are seeing the rise of the Arts and Sciences community to fill our time with online tutorials and workshops. The world has become a very scary place and for many of us our lives have shrunk to our homes and computers. The good news is this will not last forever. Soon we will be able to meet and attend events. Please continue to check in with each other and with your families. Now may be the time to try something new or do that project you have been putting off. We are the East and we are strong.

Exchequer’s Report – Mistress Philadelphia Brown

Working on the quarterly report. “Review of Bhakail’s Financial Policies” meeting postponed until the autumn.

– Philly

Herald’s Report – Lady Ragna Grímólfsdóttir

Report is on the website.

Chronicler’s Report – Lady Triona MacCasky

I would kindly request all officers to forward a copy of their report to the Chronicler’s email, to assist in putting together the newsletter.

Knight Marshal’s Report – Lord Egill Illugasson

Hello! Practices continue to be on hold until further notice. I am using when schools consider it safe to allow students to return as the metric for when to reconvening practices. Before the start of the quarantine we acquired two new fighters, and were in the process of getting another prepared to be authorized. Thank you.

Rapier Marshal’s Report – Don Melchior Kriebel

Nothing to report. Practices are canceled until further notice.

Minister of the Lists’ Report – Mistress Judith the Confused

Greetings into the Virtual Barony of Bhakail from your Virtuous MOLs!

With the news from The Wondrous Royals of the East that all live events are suspended until the end of June, I can only caution everyone to stay safe and hydrated until this Plague passes over us. Be vigilant in your precautions and let us return better than ever.

Yours in virtual service,

Gisela and Judith

Chataleine’s Report – Lady Chana Freidl the Maker

It’s an interesting time to be a newcomer in the SCA, but our new members seem to have found a way to keep up their interest with all the online opportunities that have come about. They’ve been crafting along with the best of us, and have expressed interest in cooking as well, once events get back up and running.

Minister of Arts & Sciences’ Report – Lady Maryna Borowska

Hello the Barony!

There are lots and lots of online A&S activities, classes, etc. going on, as well as lots of awesome resources from museums and other arts institutions.
If you are interested in teaching a video class through the Kingdom MoAS, please contact me and/or the MoAS office.

Recently announced: East Kingdom Try-athalon. “Each week the MoAS office will feature a new introductory level A&S project that can be completed using minimal materials, or materials you can find at home. If you have the time and energy, consider participating and trying something new.” This week is a cooking challenge issued by Maistir Mael Eoin!

Online A&S display: https://moas.eastkingdom.org/ online-ek-as-display/
Constantly-updated list of classes and webinars: https:// moas.eastkingdom.org/list-of-online-webinars/

The East Kingdom Royal Toy Box has also issued a call for small toys suitable for mailing for the Toys for Tygers initiative. Any kind of toy or game is acceptable. Contact me or check the EK Royal Toy Box group on Facebook for the mailing address.

For the upcoming Behind the Ramparts e-event, His Excellency Muin has issued a call for A&S projects to share. There is also availability for classes, entertainments, and recipes for cooks to share. Check it out!

Art and Science are some of the greatest tools we as a Society and as humans have to get us through times of trouble such as these. I am humbled by the displays of generosity and ingenuity our populace have shown.

YIS, Maryna

Chancellor Minor’s Report – Lady Honorable Lady Roseia Poseia

Nothing going on since everything has been canceled or postponed. Rosie is still accepting empty toilet paper tubes and plastic caps, milk jug sized, for craft activities once things get back going again.

Old Business

  • Shire Wars – A decision was made regarding our sponsorship of Shire Wars, should it occur. The group agreed that we would sponsor, if the Shire of Black Rose can get at least three more sponsors for the event. His Excellency has also requested that we show up in force, if and when the event happens.
  • Yule – Yule was also discussed and Marnya indicated that she was in the process of putting a bid together for submittal.
  • Pennsic – Lady Chana Freidl the Maker – We still await word as to the fate of this year’s Pennsic… The last missive from the Mayor detailed two stages – stage one runs as if everything were normal, stage two would be enacted if War Practice was canceled. Well, War Practice was canceled earlier this week, so the Mayor and the Pennsic planning committee will be meeting at some point soon to discuss the fate of the event this year. As I only have 3 pre-regs on record for Bhakail so far, I’m assuming people are waiting to pre-reg until they find out if Pennsic is happening or not. I urge you all to please be in touch with your camp masters – we have no more information than you, but would appreciate knowing your thoughts on if you’re attending or not. A post went up in the Land Agent facebook group concerning block seniority if this year’s numbers differ significantly from normal – and Land One has assured us that seniority will not change for 50 Year because of this year’s pandemic. Chronicler update: Sadly Pennsic 49 has been postponed until July 2021.

March 2020 Business Meeting Minutes

A special message from Her Majesty

Unto my dearest East Kingdom, It is with a heavy heart that I must decree ALL in person, Eastern SCA functions are canceled until April 30th. Please note this date may change as things around us change. Please be patient with Us and each other. I encourage all to use online meetings and get-togethers as much as possible. The A&S initiative has many online classes as well. The Webministy is 100% ready to help as needed. You are the treasures of this fair Kingdom and it is you that is the most important part of this game. Your passions, generosity and fighting spirit is what makes Our Dream a Reality.

Margarita, Queen of the East

Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain

Hello, the Barony!

While many want to talk (or feel compelled to talk) about disease, disturbances, and distress; you need not feel obliged to join in. It is on you to decide how to proceed. Be only as included as you feel YOU need to be.

At recent events we have seen:

Lord Egil (called Badhands) took the Unbelt Tourney by storm and was rated as the top fighter by the Chivalry assembled at Ice Weasel.

Baroness Ysmay was elevated to the Peerage as a Pelican at the Crown Bardic event held by Our neighbors, Caer Adamant.

Please wish them well, and take note of our crop of creamy upper crustiness.

On to other news, Spring is a time for a ramping up of good events within daytripping distance. Bear in mind that Bhakail is made all the more shiny by you and your participation.

We are still looking to add a camping event to our calendar starting in 2021, suggestions, ideas, and those interested in Stewarding this theoretical event.

This Barony of Bhakail succeeds as we work to make it so.

In my name; Muin, Baron of Bhakail

Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar

From the Kingdom Seneschal, Mistress Medhbh inghean ui Cheallaigh –

Greetings, Seneschals of the East!

The Kingdom Seneschals are in ongoing conversations about responses to COVID-19, and we’re sharing strategies, etc. I’ll be posting collected wisdom to the Unofficial FB Group as well as emailing you.

* Proactively review current & upcoming contracts for cancellation requirements and look for “force majeure” clauses, also known as Impossibility Occurrences, Acts of God, and Forces of Nature clauses, to see what kind of notice might be required and what payments, if any, are required or forfeited if invoked.

* Strongly encourage/require gloves be worn for food distribution (lunch taverns, snacks for fighters, etc.) where the food is not prepackaged and being provided by event staff. Obviously we can’t control what individuals do in groups.

* Encourage bringing of mugs for drinking and not sharing out of a bottle.

Also from Mistress Medhbh –

At Her Majesty’s Court at Bardic Championship this past Saturday, the Queen issued a Temporary Removal from Participation against Patrick Lomax. A TRP means that he cannot participate in the Society at all, either in person or online, until the BoD makes a decision about his case.

From the Honorable Lady Alesia –

I have also made the decision to temporarily suspend fighter practice in Phoenixville in accordance with the governor’s request to close all nonessential businesses and meetings.

Exchequer’s Report – Mistress Philadelphia Brown

I apologize for not being able to attend tonight’s Meeting.

The event reports for Yule and Tavern have been submitted.

A financial policy review meeting is planned for later this spring.

I am seeking a deputy for Barony Meetings in case I need to miss any in the future and/or to be trained as an eventual successor. If interested, please let me know.

Thanks! – Philly

Herald’s Report – Lady Ragna Grímólfsdóttir

Report posted on the website.

Chronicler’s Report – Lady Triona MacCasky

I apologize for the delay in getting out the newsletter/ meeting notes, but with all the changes and issues, I kept having to revise this to reflect the latest information coming out of Kingdom.

Knight Marshal’s Report – Lord Egill Illugasson

Practices are canceled until at least April 30th.

Rapier Marshal’s Report – Don Melchior Kriebel

Fencing practice has been suspended until at least April 30th, per the direction of the Crown.

Minister of the Lists’ Report – Mistress Judith the Confused

Now is the time to beef up your exercise regimen so you will be ready for the upcoming physical activities. Remember to drink water. See you on the field.

– Gisela and Judith

Side note from the Central Region Deputy MoL (Triona) – This is also a really good time to check your authorization. There’s a lot of expired autos both in the heavy and fencing databases. While you can’t get re-authorized at the moment because of the cancellation of practices, you’ll at least know you have to do it as soon as we get back to our regular practices.

Chatelaine’s Report – Lady Chana Freidl the Maker

There was to be a meeting of the Black Boot Company, but that has been canceled because of the ongoing restrictions.

Minister of Arts & Sciences’ Report – Lady Maryna Borowska

Crown and Queen’s Bardic was a fantastic event. Congratulations to Master Grim the Skald, newest Crown’s Bard, and Lord Drake Oranwood, newest Queen’s Bard.

There was a call for help with a demo for Iron Bog at South Jersey geek fest, but that has been postponed until June.

Applications are now open for any parties interested in participating in the Pennsic A&S War Point for the East. Please check the EK website for more information and the application.

Chancellor Minor’s Report – Lady Honorable Lady Roseia Poseia

I have been asked to run children’s activities at the Iron Bog Mitzvah, however the event was postponed.

Webminister’s Report – Lord Rúni inn írski

Martyn has stepped down as Seneschal of the bailiwick, and Livia has stepped up to the position. Their next meeting will be held on line due to advisories from Penn.

New Business

  • Bid Assistance – As the subject of bids had come up, it was suggested that something should be made available on the website to assist people interested in submitting bids for events.

If you haven’t received an email please contact her.  Rosie is collecting camp fees.

A special thanks to Lord Aiden Underhill for keeping us merry with his works.

Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar

By now you may have heard that a former member of the Barony was arrested. The information is available for anyone who wants to look for it. At this time he has not been linked to the SCA and we would like to keep it that way.

Please do not discuss this on official channels such as the Baronial Facebook page, listservs, Google Groups etc. If you are contacted by the media please refer them to the East Kingdom Media Liaison, Baroness Aneleda Falconbridge at media@eastkingdom.org.

Exchequer’s Report – Mistress Philadelphia Brown

Final receipts for Yule are in, the formal report will be ready shortly. Yule did quite well as there were a great deal more walk-ins than originally forecast. Question was raised if we should consider the kingdom tithe even though it is not yet in effect, but no decision was made.

Chamberlain’s Report – Honorable Lord Bryan mac Dhughaill an Boghadair

THL Bryan has volunteered to be our new chamberlain.

Minister of Arts & Sciences’ Report – Lady Maryna Borowska

Crown & Queen A&S is rapidly approaching. Also, C&Q Bardic is happening down in Caer Adamant on Feb. 22nd and there will be scribal and fiber arts classes in addition to the competition that day. Come out and support our neighbors to the south.

Minister of the Lists’ Report – Mistress Judith the Confused

Now that winter is upon us, it is a good time to focus on repairing or replacing any worn gear. For the safety of our combatants and friends, take care of yourself and your kit to maximize your fun. Check your authorization cards and determine if you will need to reauthorize before your next event. If your card has taken a vacation without you or is illegible, contact your friendly MOLs to complete the paperwork for a replacement at mol@bhakail.eastkingdom.org or deputy-molteam@bhakail.eastkingdom.org. AND don’t forget to keep hydrated, it’s easy to overlook your water intake during these winter months.

Chatelaine’s Report – Lady Chana Freidl the Maker

I continue to get emails from the EK website, and the people contacting us are very interested in joining in! We also had several newcomers join us at Tavern, and it seemed like everyone had a great time. Now that Ysmay and Mael Eoin are a bit more settled in the new house, hopefully we can have a Black Boot day soon and start working on getting these guys more integrated in the fields they would like to be in! A lot of them are looking forward to thrown weapons and archery as well, so we all eagerly await the spring.

Chancellor Minor’s Report – Lady Roseia Poseia

Children’s Activity are available apron request. Please contact Roseia Posey at 181843@members.eastkingdom.org. I helped Barony of Carillion with youth activities at Bellringers. Rosie also asked if people could save the caps from milk jugs as well as empty toilet paper rolls to be used as supplies for crafts for the children.

Webminister’s Report – Lord Rúni inn írski

Bailiwick of Ivyeinrust’s Report – Vacant

The Honorable Lord Martyn de Halliwell has stepped down as Seneschal. A new Seneschal will be announced at the next business meeting.

New Business

  • Thrown weapons – Practice will be starting again at Mikael’s house. Practices will be every other Sunday starting March 15th and every Wednesday night starting in April. There is also the possibility of archery practice at his home as well.

  • Commons and Champions – To be at the end of August. A final date should be announced at the next meeting.
  • Yule – A call has been put out for bids for Yule 2020.
  • Business Meeting Location – We are still looking for a permanent place for the business meeting. Their Excellency’s have offered their home for the time being, but we don’t want to abuse their hospitality.
  • Social – There was also discussion of where to hold Social and the current thought is alternating between Yards in the city and out in the Media area (or perhaps points north). Input it welcome.
  • Camping Event – His Excellency Muin has proposed the idea of Bhakail hosting a camping event. If anyone knows of appropriate sites, please let his Excellency or the Seneschal know.
  • German-American Society Demo – As part of our agreement with the German-American Society for the use of the site for Yule and Tavern, we have agreed to participate in a demo for them. This year they would like help with an 18th century demo in October. They understand that this is past our time period, so they are not expecting full garb (unless you have appropriate garb). More details to follow.

Old Business

  • PennsicPre-reg is open, so if you are planning on camping with Bhakail, please let Lady Chana know before you pre-reg. We can fit a few more people in camp this year, but we will need to figure out how to manage the planned influx of campers for next year, Pennsic 50. We will be having our first Pennsic planning meeting within the next few weeks so we can start discussing this. Another update since last year: Lady Chana has been in touch with the coordinator for disability services regarding C-PAP charging. The rules for our camp can be adjusted in order to make it easier for our camp members to charge their devices. I will email the Pennsic Google Group in order to announce the date and location for the meeting, so if you are interested in joining the group and are not already a part of it, please contact Lady Chana at 232223@members.eastkingdom.org.
