Coronet Report – September 2017
Posted on September 12, 2017 By Muin maqq Minain
Greetings from Baron Rowen and Baroness Suba! Since our last Coronet report in July we have been very busy.
In July, We attended Novice Day in the Shire of Rusted Woodlands. It was a good day supporting the newer fighters and fencers.
At this year’s Pennsic War, Bhakail had a fun and lively encampment. There were several highlights:
We were pleased to escort Our Armored Champion, Egill Illugasson called Badhands, to the Known World Baronial Armored Champions Tourney. Egill fought well and We were proud to have him represent the Barony and received many positive reports of his prowess and his courtesy. Though he did not win, a former Bhakaili, Lady Astrid Feilan, did and we were very proud of that as well.
We also got to escort our Rapier Champion, Don Eldrich Gaiman, to the Known World Baronial Rapier Champions Tourney. Don Eldrich fought well and by his own account both learned from and taught new skills to his opponents. Don Eldrich has regularly impressed Us with his courteous support and with his prowess and his courtesy to his opponents. Though he didn’t win the day, he did win his showcase bout.
Though there was a heavy thunderstorm on middle Friday when the Bhakail Filk Night was scheduled, singing did happen after the weather died down and much joyful music was made. We were pleased to host the evening and the music gladdened our hearts.
We were also pleased to be involved with the Period Music and Games Night held in camp on Tuesday of War Week, and thank Master Mael Eoin mac Echuid and Baroness Ysmay de Lynn for setting that up. That evening We held a brief Court, giving Flames to Baron Nissim aven Darmon, Lord Yoshiatsu Takiyama, and Lady Chana Freidl the Maker for their service to the encampment. We also got to witness Mistress Lissa Underhill take Lady Aibhilin inghean Ui Phaidin as an apprentice and Master Mael Eoin take Lord Matthias von Würzburg as his protege. Later in the evening, Mistress Sabine de Kerbriant took Baroness Suba and Juliana Bird as students in the art of music.
Bhakailis and friends of Bhakail were also recognised in East Kingdom Court. On Tuesday of War Week, Don Thomas del Broc of the Tadcaster Militia was raised to the Order of Defense. On Wednesday, the Southern Region Rapier Army was awarded the Blue Tyger Legion. And on Friday, Lord Donnan Fitzgerald was elevated to the Order of Chivalry.
Post-Pennsic, We attended Bhakail Champions and Commons at the end of August. Master Mael Eoin has our thanks for running this event for us. Congratulations to Bhakail’s new Baronial Champion-at-Arms, Jarl Thorson, and our new Ladies’ Champion-at-Arms, Lord Chiba Touta Yoshitaki! Congratulations also to our new Baronial Rapier Champion, Don Owynn Greenwood, and our new Ladies’ Rapier Champion, Lady Myrun Leifsdottir! We held Court at the end of the day, giving out Baronial awards to several deserving Bhakailis, including a Harlequin to Lady Triona MacCaskey, a Company of the Flame and Salamander to Baroness Wentliana Bengrek, Pasguardes to Baron Talan Gwyllt and to Egill called Badhands, and a Flame to Master Mael Eoin. We also had the honor of holding Court on behalf of Their Majesties, giving an Award of Arms and a Silver Tyger to now Lord Egill.
The following weekend We attended River Wars in the Barony of Iron Bog. Bhakail and friends had a great little encampment at the event despite the weekend’s rain. As Baron and Baroness, We fielded teams for both the Brass Hat Rapier Tourney and the Brass Hat Armored Tourney. Unfortunately, due to the weather and the holiday weekend, many of the other Baronies did not field teams and the tourneys were cancelled, with other fighting events held in their stead. We are, however, very grateful to the combatants who agreed to fight under our banner.
Lastly, this past weekend We attended Ducal Challenge in the Barony of Settmour Swamp. It was a lovely day and We were pleased to see all the fighting, fencing, and arts & sciences on display.
We’d also like to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped us set up, tear down, and serve as retainers during the day as We attend these events. You have Our deepest gratitude. We wouldn’t be able to keep the schedule that We do without your help and support.
Waauugghh, Bhakail!
For Barony, Bailiwick, and Canton,
Pray know we remain,
– Baron Rowen and Baroness Suba
