Chamberlain Report – November 2017

Posted on November 14, 2017 By

Unto the Barony, greetings!

The gear previously requested by Maistir Mael Eoin mac Echuid for use at Shire Wars VII: The Battle of Hastings has been successfully loaned & returned since our last business meeting. Many thanks to him for picking up and dropping off the gear!

I have received a request from Livia Petralia, AoA and Master Alesone Gray for Baronial gear for Bhakail Yule Revel in Renaissance Germany for day board and feast, respectively.

Now that I have completed a re-organization of my shop’s storage area, and some of the Baronial gear, I will begin moving it to the new storage space generously being provided to us by Mistress Philadelphia Brown over the coming months. Once in the new space, I will be analyzing what, if any shelving and/or new storage is needed for the gear. At tonight’s business meeting I will be returning $277.88 from the initial $300.00 advance for shelving, due to the change of locations (the $22.12 used was for several new, smaller storage totes).

Additionally, the Barony will need to examine its gear going forward, and possibly prior to this year’s Yule. Over time a small number of our serving platters have gone “out of service” due to age and/or rust. I will be researching prices this month on several serving platters as well as bowls and other items, and making recommendations to the Council of the Exchequer.

I would like to ask that the populace voice any support and/or objection to the replacement & expansion to meet the needs of a standard day board + feast production typically put on in Bhakail.

We did get several new sets of service spoons and larger kitchen utensil spoons, but we do need to purchase some sort of small ladles for serving at the table and standard serving forks for each table, at the very least for Yule, and would ask for approval this evening, prior to forwarding exact costs to the Council of the Exchequer.

Bhakail’s kitcheners have long been a shining example of the plenitudinous hospitality of our Barony, and their hard work and devotion to craft requires our continued support as a whole.

Finally, my term expires in June of 2018. As of now, no one has expressed any interest in coming on as Deputy Chamberlain, or in replacing me when my term expires. If you have ever been interested in serving the Barony, this is a wonderful way to serve, and now is the best time of the year to learn a considerable amount of the job. So, if you aren’t sure if the job of the Chamberlain is for you… email me, we can chat, I’ll show you how preparing for Yule works, and you can hopefully make a more informed decision if you’d like to take over in July 2018 (or further down the road).

In service to the Barony,

Martyn
