January 2021 Business Meeting Minutes
Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain
Hello, the People of Bhakail, Our Allies and Friends;
The Wheel of the Year has once again turned, and we now find ourselves in completely new year! With all of the same problems we had last year, if not a few more added on top.
It’s all most as if only a pair of weeks have passed, and none of those problems were taken off the table in that scant time frame.
So, with this in mind, please be patient with each other, and be patient with yourselves.
As it is a new year, check your memberships! Now is the perfect time to renew if you will be expiring soon.
And, as we are in the month of January:
Saturday next will be our online Tavern Event (Jan 23rd) and we will be partnering with another online event for the glory of the East Kingdom!
And remember, the World may have stuttered, and stumbled, but Bhakail is still here!

Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar
Happy New Year! I have filed my fourth quarter report.
Tavern is happening on the 23rd and there are several other events that are happening this month. Please take a few moments to check out the East Kingdom calendar of events.
And of course winter is always a good time to take a look at your garb and armor for needed repairs or replacement. Now is the time to think about new and shiny things for when events start up in person again.

Hail, the Barony!
Since the December meeting, we’ve had three new people join the FB group. Minutes for the December meeting have been posted to the website. We’ll start pushing our Tavern event on social media and email this week. Important information from the Kingdom, like the change for the February Royal Ethereal Court to the 3rd Sunday instead of the 2nd as usual, is still regularly shared with the Barony’s email and FB groups. See you all around the web!

Herald’s Report – Lady Ragna Grímólfsdóttir
From the Eastern Internal Letter of Intent (ILoI) – This letter includes all new names and devices that have been submitted to the Eastern College of Heralds in the last month. It takes about two months for items to reach the next stage, the Eastern Letter of Decision.

The January 2021 letter has not yet been posted. - December 2020:
I did not see any names or items that I recognized as belonging to members of the Barony on this month’s report.
From the Eastern Letter of Decision (LoD) – This letter reports what items will be forwarded to Laurel to be decided on and what will be returned to the submitter for more work. It takes about six more months for submissions to reach the next stage, the Laurel Letter of Acceptances and Returns.

From the Laurel Letter of Acceptances and Returns (LoAR) – This letter says what items have been accepted by SCA’s College of Arms and what has been returned to the submitter unregistered.
- November 2020:
Jacqueline Cross’ new name “Jacqueline Cross” has been accepted. “Berrick Grayveson” has been retained as an alternate. “Jack Cross” has been released as an alternate. - October 2020:
Jibril ibn `Ammar al-Fayyad’s new badge “(Fieldless) A lion Or seated in a wooden chair maintaining a wooden crossbow proper.” was accepted.

Although PA has lifted its restrictions on in person sports, Philadelphia’s restrictions continue through to Jan 15th. I will have more updates as to when practice will resume once I hear back from the regional marshal.

Minister of Arts & Sciences’ Report – Lady Maryna Borowska
Hello the Barony!
Winter is a lovely time to practice your arts and sciences as the weather limits our outdoor frolicking. This is true even when a pandemic is on!
Check the EK MoAS website (and the sites for other kingdoms!), Facebook, and mailing lists for announcements of virtual classes and events. “Sparkly and Shiny” and the Embroidery Schola are two I know of off the top of my head, but there are many more.
If you have any interest in teaching a class or otherwise hosting a virtual A&S activity, please reach out to me or the EK MoAS. Or if there’s a class you want to take… reach out to the teacher and ask if they’ve considered offering it!

It was also mentioned that Kingdom A&S is going to be virtual this year with each entrant getting their own webpage with links to documentation and such. Folks will also be able to leave comments instead of tokens.

- Pennsic – Lady Chana Freidl the Maker, Campmaster
Just a note to say that Pre-Reg has opened on the Cooper’s page for Pennsic 49! Our Barony’s pre-regs from last year have been rolled over (Morwill, Rosie, and John Patrick). If you pre-regged last year and you are not one of those three people. please let me know and I will figure out who to get in touch with.
We do not yet know if Pennsic 49 will be a reality, but the planning committee needed to get started working, and opening pre-regs at the normal time is part of that process. I have no more information than you, as the Mayor has not released a new update since the last one in December (which you can find here – https://land.pennsicwar.org/docs_mayor.php).
As always, if you would like to camp with Bhakail at Pennsic this year, you must get permission from me before pre-regging. I know the situation is much different than normal, regarding precedence in who has camped with us before. If Pennsic happens this year, and you choose not to come due to Covid, that will not be held against you in terms of limiting your ability to camp with us at Pennsic 50.

- Exchequer Deputy – The Exchequer is looking for a successor or a deputy interested in learning the position. Mistress Philadelphia’s term as Exchequer is not due to expire until 2022 but she is looking for someone interested in learning the position with the intent to take over when her term ends. If you have any questions regarding the duties of the Exchequer please contact Mistress Philadelphia at exchequer@bhakail.eastkingdom.org.
