October Coronet Report

Posted on October 13, 2016 By

Greetings to all who read these words!
While quite a lot has happened this past month, we’ll try and keep our report brief; after splitting it into four parts last month due to size, we’re going to try and write up events as they happen, rather than save it all up for monthly recaps.  Some months can be quite busier than others!
River Wars
We would like to say thank you to all the Bhakailies and Friends, both old and new, who came out to camp with us at River War. It was an impressive showing, but more than that, we are incredibly proud of how easily and happily everyone helped each other all weekend. Not only do many hands make light work, they also make the work, and the play more enjoyable for everyone. We would also like to thank everyone who headed the call for help with the event; to move tables, wash dishes, and do whatever else the event staff needed. As you know, service is something we hold dear to our hearts, and it is gratifying to see so many other people are joining in.

On Saturday, Dayna presented us with new tools for Bhakail shenanigans. There are still some kinks to work out, but we have plans in the works. We are hoping for something on that front at ShireWars. We’ll let you know (quietly of course) if there are further developments.
A special thank you goes out to Eleanora the Tilemaker who helped Her Excellency all day long. This is not an expecially easy task at River War, and she did a remarkable job of making sure there was a shady place to sit, plenty of water, and snacks as needed. This made the event much easier than it might otherwise be, and Her Excellency survived the day with only minor complications.
Bhakail continued to expand her artistic reputation: Muin taught Historic Vessel Creation Using the Raising Technique all day long; Triona helped out with the Scribal folks; and Edgar presented his meads to folks. The Bhakaili Branslers with Sabine, Suba, and Our Bardic Champion Sean performed music for a good portion of the day and supplied music for Iron Bog’s court. They even let Her Excellency join in.
Usen, Our new Rattan Ladies Champion was able to participate in a number of the heavy scenarios, which were interesting to say the least and had a very good time. Our new Rattan Champion was not able to make it, but we know he was there in spirit. We were thinking of you Egill.  It was good to see the Black and Red represented on the field, particularly by Our combat archers, who were absolutely devastating. It was very exciting to watch.
Our Rapier Champions acquitted themselves exceptionally on the field on Saturday. Eldrich stepped out of the fighting to Marshall an additional list, and Ellynore fought well and with good skill and concentration. They both also indulged a whim of Her Excellencies Bhakail and Iron Bog and fought bouts with the champions of Iron Bog. Since Iron Bog doesn’t have a Lady’s Champion, their Rapier champion chose Baron Larry to fight again Ellynore. On the one hand, Bhakail did not chalk up either martial win, Her Excellency could not be prouder of either of the champions. They both fought with exceptional skill and honor. Eldrich had some beautiful passes and very pretty deaths, while Ellynore showed everybody exactly why she was chosen as Lady’s champion. She made sure that all her hits were clean and that everything about the fight was fair. Both sets of fights were pure joy.
Sunday saw more cooperation and hard work from the good folks of Bhakail. We cannot thank you enough for all that you do for Us, for the Barony and for each other. This is truly how we live in service to the dream.
Ghosts, Ghouls & Goblins and Roses Tournament
The Barony of Carillion had a fun event this past weekend which included a Roses Tourney on top of the Barony’s annual Champions tournaments.  It was great seeing our own Champions, former Champions and many other local fighters and fencers out there! While the weather could’ve been better, it thankfully wasn’t bad enough to disrupt much.  Unfortunately, Mael Eoin wasn’t able to observe all of the bouts as he was assisting the Mistress of the Lists, but Captain Berrick had quite a good showing and Lord Eldrich was observed offering one-on-one instruction outside of the lists after one of the rounds.

Coming up, Shire Wars is this weekend; Mael Eoin will be in attedance (Ysmay will be visiting Disney with Lady Lianor and her family).  K&Q Rapier is coming up, soon, and then we’ll be looking forward to Musician’s Day and, of course, Bhakail Yule.

In Service,
Mael Eoin and Ysmay
Baron and Baroness of Bhakail
