New Business

Boyscouts Demo

Boyscouts of America contacted us about doing a demo at an event in May, and would like to know if we are doing it again. If any one is interested they have suggestions for what to do. The event is May 18-22. Previously they have done armor making, cooking, etc. It’s about an hour away, technically not in the Barony lands, so it was proposed to reach out to the local group. Musser Scout Reservation. Specifically May 20th. Marta will contact the local group and forward anyone who is interested.

Winter Nights

All about the bardic special sauce. Things are in good shape. Not expecting a huge turn out but there is enthusiasm and people said they are coming. Set up is happening on Friday night, 6:30pm. Champions ring has been passed on to be presented to the winner. It’s also Baronial Champions. There is no evening feast.

Pennsic Sheet Walls

Rosie would like to start working on more sheet walls for Pennsic, and suggested working on them at social. Others volunteered to help her out. Sabine requested that during the planning they consult with Darmon who is in charge of the camp.

Upcoming Chamberlain Sorting

The barony has a lot of stuff we need to get rid of. Chamberlain is asking for opinions on how to get rid of them. Is a plague sale sort of thing available, or donate things to other groups? We could draw salamanders on the items and give them out as site tokens. Plan to be presented at the next meeting.

Are we doing anything for the EK 50 year thing?

Bhakail’s 45th anniversary is also coming up in three years.

Old Business

Investiture has been approved. Some adjustments need to be made to the announcement, but things are moving forward. Decoration help will be greatly appreciated. Labor exchange with Caer Adamant and Barren Sands, and there will be benefits and a special deal for those willing to stay late to help clean.

Tavern went well and was fun. We have a gaming champion. People left singing praises about the event and were going to spread the word.

Barony forwarded the Chamberlain money for new shelves and totes. Some of the money will be returned because Philadelphia is getting a new garage that will be larger and more available, so some of the formerly proposed changes will not be necessary.

Their highnesses would like to know for Investiture if people are worthy of awards, that are not the silver level awards. Orders of High Merit, Troubadours, AoAs, write them in so they can do things why they are here. The earlier the royals know the better.

Officer Reports

Coronets

Greetings!

January saw another successful run of our Tavern, an event designed to train staff to run an event, and it was well-executed by our wonderful Event Steward, Ayleth le Frye and the head cook Þorsteinn Hroðbjartsson. The day of food, drink and games also succeeded in discovering our first Gaming Champion, The Honorable Lord Aurddeilen-ap-Robet, whose games we have been enjoying for years in the Shire of Buckland Cross at demos and, of course, in Bhakail’s camp at Pennsic, where he has been running the period games side of our period games and music night. We look forward to his service to the Barony and, we hear, there will be a Byzantine Chess challenge from our friends in the Barony of Flaming Gryphon to go alongside our traditional East versus Mid Chess match…

Her Excellency also made the trip to the Southern Region fencing practice, which saw our Rapier Champion, Don Eldrich Gaiman, involved in running things for the day.

We’d also like to congratulate Mistress Sabine de Kerbriant on becoming Queen’s Bardic Champion this weekend! Vivat!

Seneschal – We have had a busy winter with two events and another coming up. Lots of semi-local events. Go to them and represent Bhakail well. Put your best Salamandary foot forward.

Exchequer – we have money, we lost a little at tavern, we have the event report form for Yule. Net event profit over $800, thanks to coming in under food budget mostly thanks to John Marshal we should gang thank him (can we send a written thank you note?)

Salamander Pursuivant’s Report, 2017-02

Their Excellencies held a Baronial Court on January 28th at “At the Sign of the Bear and Phoenix” tavern event. The only item of business was Lord Aurddeilen ap Robert appointed Baronial Gaming Champion.

There will be a brief Court at “Winter Nights South” bardic event on February 18th, 2017.

Anyone interested in producing scrolls for Baronial Court should contact me.

Chronicler

Thank you to those who are posting their reports to the website. It really makes putting the announcements together more convenient.

Knight Marshal

There was a huge turn out last week. 25 fighters. Practice is going as normal. Gearing up for melees in April.

MoAS

We have a new kingdom A&S minister, Master Phillip White. Master Phillip is eager to hear input on the state of A&S in the kingdom and on the way A&S competitions are run; he’s also been running (with Mistress Amy) a series of excellent discussions on those topics, which I highly recommend to anyone interested.

The new Royal A&S Champions are Lady Sofia Gianetta di Trieste (Queen’s) and Lady Raziya bint Rusa (King’s). I know a number of Bhakailis and friends of Bhakail were involved in the competition, but am sorry to say I didn’t get a chance to observe their work, as there were also a number of Bhakailis and friends of Bhakail in the bardic competition, including me…

Please come out and support Winter Nights South this Saturday — Baron Mael Eoin will be selecting the new baronial bardic champion! In addition to the performing aspects, we’ll have period games out all day.

Coming up in the future: Maestro Antonio Fava will be back in Philadelphia from April 3-8, teaching what I hear is an amazing commedia dell’arte program. Also, early music vocal group Les Canards Chantants will be performing at Glencairn, the medieval museum in Bryn Athyn, on Friday, May 12 at 7:30pm.

Chatelaine

Greetings from the Baronial Chatelaine for the monthly Report!

Newcomer Update:  We’ve received 1 newcomer contact of interest for the local Barony!  I am following up with them and hope they will join us for local activities and / or events very soon.

Gold Key:  Starting this month we will be inventorying the Gold Key.  Once I’ve taken stock of the inventory I will update further.  I anticipate this to be a fairly long and involved task as I understand we have quite a bit in Gold Key that needs to be sorted, mended, or donated.  I sent out a plea for assistance from the populace with this task, and more help is still needed! Please see this announcement for more details.

We were also recently contacted by a national non-profit that’s seeking Regional Philadelphia SCA assistance in providing some demo-like activities during their event in May. I’ll be bringing this topic up at the February Business meeting.

Chamberlain

Chamberlain’s Report:

We had one, medium, plastic tote break (it was already cracked) at

Tavern. All other gear was returned in tip-top shape.

Almost all of the gear is currently in the back of my family’s shop on a

temporary basis. Mistress Philadelphia will be providing the Barony with

a new garage location for Baronial gear storage in the coming months, so

the shelving project has been temporarily shelved (pun intended). Many

thanks to Mistress Philadelphia and her continued generosity.

The $300.00 budget for shelves was also for some new containers as well,

I believe. If that proves to be the case, over the coming weeks as new

stock is taken of the Baronial gear, new containers will be acquired,

which are more appropriate to the items stored in them, as well as

containers designed for transporting gear to/from events, demos, etc.

If anyone is interested in helping with sorting, please email

chamberlain@bhakail.eastkingdom.org

I hope to have the sorting, accounting, and re-organization of the boxes

and items by the March Business Meeting. I am also hoping to have items

which I feel the Barony no longer needs, to discuss at that meeting.

In service to the Barony,

Martyn

Chanceller Minor

All quiet with the youth of Bhakail. If you are planning an event and want to have youth activities please contact me at youth@bhakail.eastkingdom.org.

In service to the Barony,

Lady Alesia de Maris

Chancellor Minor

Webminister

Since my last report, I have updated some details on the Officers page.  Not much else to see here for this month.

Canton – Now that our canton is safe from the Welsh, we are moving on to other business. Violet is the new Exchequer. She has published the revised version of the bylaws. Opening officer positions up to those who are not residents. Good place to try it out before being a baronial officer.

Bailiwick – has meeting tomorrow night at Penn
