September 2020 Business Meeting Minutes
Coronet’s Report – Baron Muin maqq Minain
Hello, The Barony!
We have finally moved past the trauma that has been a Year Without a Pennsic, and maybe we have gained a new perspective on Pennsic as SCAdians. We now have almost a year to prep ourselves for the next Pennsic. Projects we didn’t quite get finished for this year, we have a grace period allowing those same projects to get finished, and possibly to troubleshoot any snags encountered.
We have been given time to get it right.
And, some of you may have noticed I had said “Almost a year.”
We are now less that a year to the next Pennsic.
This awkward time has also allowed the Barony, and its friends and allies, to work on other projects that each open up new avenues for us to engage in this Society we love. We have had Bardics. We have continued with our weekly Socials, and our monthly Business Meetings. We have even had East Kingdom Courts, elevations, and A&S classes.
Thankfully, here in Bhakail, we were even able to hold another Behind the Ramparts event this last month. The conversation is good, and the chance to show off new cooking skills and achievements is always a welcome topic.
With this in mind, I am proposing that another Behind the Ramparts event be held in October, or early November. Possibly with a short Baronial Court held therein.
Your Baron,
– Muin
Seneschal’s Report – Honorable Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar
Greetings,
The first Ethereal Coronation in the East has happened. It was very well done and if you were unable to see it live, you can still see it on Youtube.
Events are still canceled for the rest of the year, but that just gives us the opportunity to make new garb and look forward to next year. As our beloved Baron pointed out, we have less than a year to prepare for Pennsic.

Social Media Deputy – Master Rowen Cloteworthy
Hello, the Barony! –
Information continues to flow in, out, and around the Barony. Five folks have joined the FB group in the last month, including the Kingdom SM Officer. Alesia updated the announcement at the top of the FB group page with updated resource links and the contact info in the group description has been updated. Kingdom has started a spreadsheet of SM contacts for local groups. I’ve updated our Seneschal contact on that list, as well as Livia’s contact as the Bailiwick Seneschal. Minutes for last month’s meeting were posted to the website. That’s everything for this month.
In service to the Baron and Barony,
– Rowen
Exchequer’s Report – Mistress Philadelphia Brown
Nothing new to report other than I am focusing on getting old, uncashed checks reissued and cashed so we can clear them off the Bhakail liability report. The old, uncashed checks are mostly $5.00 refunds for overpaying for events.
Thanks!
– Philly

Minister of Arts & Sciences’ Report – Lady Maryna Borowska
Hello, the Barony –
As we pass the six-month mark of the pandemic affecting both daily and SCA life here in the East, I want to remind everyone to take care of and be kind to themselves. This is a prolonged period of stress that the human body and brain is simply not designed to handle easily. Many people have done great artistic things during this time, and of course the move to online classes and meetings has made many things accessible to those who might not be able to attend an in-person class. But it’s also important to remember that daily life takes a lot of energy right now – stress takes energy – and that it’s OK if you haven’t touched a needle or a brush or an instrument in months. The arts can be a wonderful source for self care, and an outlet for some of that stress, but they can also be a source of pressure.
Take time for yourself. Pick up a project that’s just for you, and not for largesse or commission or competition.
Breathe, and remember it won’t be like this forever, and it’s OK if it’s still hard after all this time. This isn’t something we can or should get used to.
YIS,
– Maryna
